Among the post-war reconstruction initiatives in the United Kingdom in the 1950s, the architectural style known as brutalist architecture first appeared.

Brutalist architecture :

Among the post-war reconstruction initiatives in the United Kingdom in the 1950s, the architectural style known as brutalist architecture first appeared. Brutalist architecture is characterised by simple, unadorned structures that emphasise the raw construction materials and structural components. In addition to using angular geometric designs and a primarily monochromatic colour scheme, the style frequently uses exposed, unpainted concrete or brick. Other materials including steel, wood, and glass are also used.

The most significant candidates for brutalism during the modern era of architecture were universities. Around the world, there was a growing trend at the time to build universities. University research and a skilled workforce were given more value during the years when Cold War worries and the economics of a rapidly expanding nation were noticeable. The number of existing schools has increased significantly, and brand-new universities, colleges, and community colleges are being formed and constructed.

Brutalism gained popularity among institutional contenders and has many examples worldwide. This type of architecture generally combines intricate brickwork and exposed concrete with strong geometry and a preponderance of large, castle-like structures. In contrast to commercial constructions, which tended to favour the International Style, brutalism was relatively uncommon for educational structures, particularly university buildings.

When utilised to construct institutional buildings, brutalism has both benefits and drawbacks. The advantages of them are that most of the materials utilised in structures of the brutalist style are affordable and accessible. They don't require constant renovation because they are made of materials that are robust and fire-resistant. Nevertheless, this design has several drawbacks in addition to its benefits, such as problems with heating, cooling, and acoustics due to previous isolation issues. This study looked into the materials used in institutional structures designed in a brutalist manner. Future research can be done to assess the geometry of these structures.

Value and contrast are both seen in this image. A proper definition of contrast for this image would be -differences in the light and dark values .

The correct option is 4.

The difference in brightness or colour that helps you differentiate one thing from another is called contrast. Contrast in the actual world is determined by the contrast between one object and other things in the same field of vision in terms of colour and brightness.

Colors that contrast one another are different from one another. Depending on where they are on the colour wheel, contrast levels range from high to low.

Black and white or light and dark are extremely ageless colours, and their contrast is the biggest contrast there is.

In design and art, the term "value" refers to the brightness and darkness of a hue. The difference between bright and dark values, or contrast, is what allows us to perceive anything. Chroma (colour) comes into play after value. Edges and objects are harder to see when there is less contrast between light and dark.

What is a retrograde?

A melodic line that is the opposite of one that was said before or at the same time is referred to as its retrograde or cancrizans.

Pitch and rhythm are both reversed in an exact retrograde. Even more precisely, a retrograde can reverse the shape of the notes themselves, but this is only conceivable in electronic music.

Some composers opt to retrograde either the rhythms or only the pitches of a musical line. Reversing the pitch classes alone in twelve-tone music is regarded as a retrograde, regardless of the melodic contour that is produced by their registral placement.

Early cave paintings may have acted as a form of sympathetic magic.

Answers

Answer:

(credits to stephensepulveda on Qúíźlét) If you are using this for an assignment, please paraphrase :)

Explanation:

“Define sympathetic magic, and explain how it has been used to understand Paleolithic cave painting. Who debunked this theory, using what kinds of evidence?”

It is well known that as a species we appreciate aesthetic qualities in our environment and surroundings. We decorate our homes with art, trim our lawns and are particular about the color of our cars. When we look back and study the meaning of cave paintings we can't help to think that there was more to it than just the simple pleasure of painting a horse on a wall. It certainly was not easy to acquire and create the materials to do so in those times so we tend to speculate as to why they exist in the first place. As a graphic designer, I understand that aesthetics can be very subjective and relative to one's culture. It makes sense to me that these ancient wall paintings served a greater purpose that just being decorative. Decorating these walls for the sole purpose of decorating is not enough of a motive for these people to go to such great lengths to create these marks. Sympathetic Magic relies on the idea that the paintings could "magically" affect the actions that were being performed by an individual or group that represents something about them or an action they are undertaking. Shamans might have portrayed a hunters prey sleeping in hopes that the said hunter would actually find their in a more vulnerable state such as sleeping. Finding your prey while it was sleeping was more favorable than hunting it while it is awake for obvious reasons therefore Shamans could hold rituals to ensure a successful hunt. This idea of sympathetic magic was later contested by Andre Leroi- Gourhan and Annette Laming-Emperaire. They dismissed the theory based on statistical analysis of debris from settlements of people. They concluded that the animals most frequently portrayed for hunting and hunting were not the ones that were depicted in caves. Essentially the cave paintings showed bison when in actuality the food that was being hunted was something else.
