Although there are differences in Black-White and they are well documented within vigilant coping style listing the inequalities still they are less understood. The data obtained from the analysis of 718 adults regarding their Exploring Health Disparities in Integrated Communities (EHDIC) Study, estimations were made regarding the logistic regression models to examine the cross-sectional relationship between the terms race, vigilant coping style, and depression. After working on the samples, it was found that adults were more depressed than blacks.
Moreover, while accounting for the coping style, the difference in the depression of Black and White increased. The association persisted even when the covariates were added. While there were high rates of depression among the Whites compared to the Blacks, the differences appeared to be greater than the report previously recorded when the vigilance was accounted for. The findings suggest that if there was not any high prevalence of vigilant coping among Blacks, the well-documented Black advantage regarding depression compared to Whites would likely be even greater.
