How does the text achieve this effect?Showing how electronic devices reduce human contact.Showing how electronic devices make face-to-face and more expressive conversations difficult.Showing how electronic devices make people miss details of the world and human beings.

The text reinforces the idea that face-to-face conversations are more important and necessary than conversations made on electronic devices. That's because devices make conversation impersonal, meaningless, futile, contactless, and often false.

How is the Life of a Firefly Like the Life Cycle of a Firefly

A glow illuminates from deep within the woods, it floats around just evading your every move, being 1 step ahead at all times. What could this be? An otherworldly creature, a being sent from deep space? Well its the humble firefly, this creatures lifespan carely lasts longer than the bursts of light that it creates but in that time magical things can happen. Not too dissimilar to ours.
The life of firefly will always begin amongst hundreds of others. This part of their life is almost identical to hundreds of thousands of other creatures. But would you think that it is the same as us as well? Our lives begin with our parents where shortly after we are left to stay with hundreds of other infants for hours on end. Beings that will live completely different lives start out the same way.
Well that was a given but how about other stages of a firefly's life how are they similar to ours? The first few seconds of their life like many will be incredibly strange and alien. Their first instincts will be to look for food and survive. And a child at birth will cry and scream for being taken out of their home and placed into a loud, bright, and cold world. Then they will reach for the mother for comfort and nurture. And like the larvae all they will do for the first major part of their life will be to eat sleep and grow.
After a few months of growing in this fashion only a month or so will remain of the firefly's life. This is when they are practically grown. This is when the firefly will start to mate and start to procreate and make offspring of their own to recreate the process. A person, many of their desires would be to have children and this would take place from their 20s to their 60s. The person, in this case, would have gone through their childhood and would either already have children or are in the process of having them. The firefly after laying/mating will soon die after the offspring are laid and would be like a person in their late stages of life close to death.
From death to life, to the end of it all the life of a firefly is fairly similar to a person. A creature whose “life” is a blink of an eye to us has just as much meaning and just as much is accomplished.

Use context clues to determine the meaning of sensible as it is used in paragraph 79 “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.” Write your definition of sensible here and identify clues that helped you figure out the meaning. Then check the meaning in the dictionary.

Answers

By using context clues, we can determined that "sensible" as used in "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" means reasonable, or rational, as is further explained below.

What are context clues?

When we read a text, it is very likely that we will come across some unfamiliar words. However, it is possible to find clues in the text itself that help us determined the meaning of those unfamiliar words. Such clues are called context clues.

Let's take a look at the paragraph where the word "sensible" appears in “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi":

Darzee was a feather-brained little fellow who could never hold more than one idea at a time in his head. And just because he knew that Nagaina's children were born in eggs like his own, he didn't think at first that it was fair to kill them. But his wife was a sensible bird, and she knew that cobra's eggs meant young cobras later on.

Here, we can contrast what is said about Darzee and his wife. Darzee is called a "feather-brained little fellow," which means he is not very smart. His wife, on the other hand, is his opposite. She is sensible. Unlike him, she can understand and reason about things.

With those context clues in mind, we can say that the meaning of "sensible" as used in the excerpt is reasonable or rational.
