Title: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Type of Conflict: Character vs. Society
[Poster with an image of Tom Sawyer and the town of St. Petersburg in the background. The title and type of conflict are prominently displayed.]
Part 2: Conflict Timeline
Tom Sawyer is introduced as a mischievous boy who enjoys playing pranks and avoiding school.
Tom witnesses a murder and is terrified that the killer, Injun Joe, will come after him.
Tom and his friend Huck Finn find treasure but are forced to keep it a secret because they found it while playing hooky from school.
Tom is falsely accused of stealing and must testify in court to clear his name.
Tom and Huck witness Injun Joe's death in a cave and finally feel safe.
Part 3: Perspective Paragraph
In "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain, Tom is a young boy living in the small town of St. Petersburg. The main conflict in the story is Tom's struggle against the strict rules and expectations of society. Tom is a free spirit who enjoys playing pranks and having adventures, but he is constantly reprimanded by adults for his behavior. Tom sees society as an obstacle to his happiness and freedom, as evidenced by the following quote: "Injun Joe was believed to have killed five citizens of the village, but what of that? If he had been Satan himself, there would have been plenty of weaklings ready to scribble their names to a pardon-petition, and drip a tear on it from their permanently impaired and leaky water-works" (Twain 126).
On the other hand, the antagonist in the story is society itself, which values conformity and obedience over individuality and creativity. Society sees Tom as a troublemaker who needs to be tamed and controlled. As one character notes, "Tom's mouth watered for the apple, but he stuck to his work. His Aunt Polly would have been astonished if she had seen how empty his hands were. She had talked about going as if she was going to meet an engagement--maybe a wedding engagement--and he hung about the house, and she played lady of the manor to suit his humor or to torment him, as she was in the mood" (Twain 17).
In conclusion, Tom and society have very different perspectives on the main conflict of the story. Tom sees society as an obstacle to his freedom and creativity, while society sees Tom as a troublemaker who needs to be tamed. These opposing viewpoints create tension and conflict throughout the novel.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is an 1876 novel by Mark Twain about a boy growing up along the Mississippi River.
Write about the Adventures of Tom Sawyer. In his 1876 book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Mark Twain tells the story of a little boy living up near the Mississippi River. It takes place in the 1840s in St. Petersburg, which is modeled after Twain's boyhood home of Hannibal, Missouri.
Summary of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. A small boy named Tom Sawyer lives on the banks of the Mississippi River with his aunt Polly. He appears to like getting into mischief the most. Tom is given the assignment of whitewashing a fence as a punishment for skipping school one day (and getting into a fight).
Even though Twain was writing "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" in the 1870s, it is obvious to me that this book is not appropriate for 9- and 10-year-olds.

Answer:
This passage, taken from Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, highlights the dystopian society where intellectualism is frowned upon and conformity is celebrated. The author argues that the education system has been transformed to emphasize physical activities rather than critical thinking skills, leading to the depreciation of the term "intellectual." The passage suggests that the society is afraid of change and unfamiliar ideas, as evidenced by the torture of the bright boy in the class. The author also argues that the society values conformity over individuality, resulting in everyone being made equal, where there are no differences to judge or mountains to overcome. However, the author also cautions that this societal structure is dangerous and emphasizes the need for free thought and access to knowledge, as books are perceived as a threat to the current system.

Which of the numbered sentences from the excerpt shows the most commentary and why?
2 – is about fairy tales
4 – quotes popular culture
1 – says something about family’s social and economic status
3 – is about medical value of shoes
Because it uses a lighthearted contrast to highlight the speaker's sense of style, sentence 4 has the most commentary.
The speaker's feelings regarding her appearance and the attention it attracted are made clear by this. The "Bride of Frankenstein" metaphor used by the author highlights how the protagonist's attire is inappropriate in social situations. Sentence 1 is the one with the most discussion "Shirts by Bobbie Brooks weren't readily available to us. With my cousin's three years older hand-me-downs, I attended school." The fact that they lacked the money to purchase new apparel illustrates the family's socioeconomic level. To comprehend the narrator's experience, refer to this commentary's broader context.

Write an essay in which the following words appear:
Then I realised that a mirror only reflects what is on the outside and not who you
are on the inside.
[50]
Answer:
Explanation:
As a child, I often found myself staring into mirrors, fascinated by the way they reflected my image back to me. I would spend hours examining every detail of my appearance, from the color of my eyes to the shape of my nose. It wasn't until later in life that I realized that a mirror only reflects what is on the outside and not who you are on the inside.
I had always been told that beauty comes from within, but I didn't fully understand what that meant until I started to focus on developing my inner qualities rather than my external appearance. I began to read more, to learn new skills, and to cultivate meaningful relationships with the people around me. And as I did so, I began to see that true beauty is not something that can be seen in a mirror.
When we look in a mirror, we see only what is on the surface. We see our physical attributes, our flaws, and our imperfections. But we do not see the qualities that make us who we are: our kindness, our empathy, our resilience, and our strength. These are the qualities that truly define us as human beings, and they cannot be seen in a reflection.
It is easy to become obsessed with our appearance and to focus solely on our external image. But when we do so, we miss out on the richness and depth of our inner selves. We miss out on the chance to connect with others on a deeper level and to create meaningful relationships based on who we truly are.
So the next time you find yourself staring into a mirror, take a moment to remember that it only reflects what is on the outside. Look beyond your physical appearance and focus instead on the qualities that make you who you are. Embrace your inner beauty and let it shine through in all that you do.
two factors that influence your self awareness and selfesteem
Explanation:
There are many factors that can influence a person's self-awareness and self-esteem, but here are two examples:
Personal experiences: Our personal experiences, both positive and negative, can shape how we perceive ourselves and our place in the world. Positive experiences such as receiving praise, accomplishing goals, or experiencing a sense of belonging can boost our self-esteem and lead to greater self-awareness. On the other hand, negative experiences such as failure, rejection, or criticism can lower our self-esteem and make us question our self-worth.
Social environment: The people and social environment around us can also influence our self-awareness and self-esteem. For example, growing up in a supportive and loving family can foster positive self-esteem and a strong sense of self-awareness. However, growing up in a toxic or abusive environment can lead to negative self-perception and a lack of self-awareness. Additionally, our social groups and the people we surround ourselves with can impact our self-esteem, as we may compare ourselves to others or feel pressure to conform to certain societal standards.

Limited exposure to diversity: If the child grows up in a homogeneous community where there is little exposure to people from different backgrounds, they may be more likely to view those who are different as "other" or "outsiders."
Socialization into discriminatory norms: The child may learn from their family and community that discrimination is acceptable or even expected in certain situations, such as when interacting with people from different racial or ethnic groups.
Lastly, Institutional discrimination: The community itself may have structures and systems in place that perpetuate discrimination, such as unequal access to education, employment, or housing based on one's race, ethnicity, or other demographic factors.
