Miranda sat in the high school computer lab typing like mad. It was 8:30 a.m., and her 1,000-word report on The Catcher in the Rye was due at 9:00. For the past hour, she had been flipping through the ratty pages of the old paperback trying to discern the major plot points and then typing out a few sentences that she hoped were logical. The only reason she was able to get into the lab that early was because she was one of Mrs. Brody’s assistants, but a couple of hours in the lab didn’t make up for weeks of zoning out in English class.
Miranda could kick herself, but she was too busy skimming through her notes and attempting to remember something—anything!—that Mr. Giuffreda had talked about. Mr. Giuffreda was a tough grader, and Miranda did not work well under pressure—not a great combination. On top of all that, Miranda could hear her mother’s voice in her head: “One more bad grade in English, young lady, and no more soccer team.” Miranda failed to see the relationship between soccer and book reports, but she also knew her mother wasn’t kidding. When she had slacked off in geometry last semester, her mother had taken away her cell phone for a month. Another time, when Miranda had missed her curfew—again and again—she had gotten grounded for two weeks.
Still typing, Miranda thought about Mr. Giuffreda. He expected nothing but the best—and then some. He never gave extensions unless someone had a family emergency, and he had a terrible habit of brushing off even the most creative excuses. Anyway, Miranda didn’t need an extra day or two. She needed time to read the entire novel again. Miranda ran a word count—361. She checked her watch—8:45. She flipped to the end of the book trying desperately to remember the ending, but nothing was coming to her. Why hadn’t she paid attention?
At 8:55, she had a whopping, miraculous 402 words. The homeroom bell had rung five minutes ago, and students were filing into the lab for first period. Miranda’s fingers were still flying, but by 8:59, Mrs. Brody asked Miranda to leave so she could start class on time. Miranda saved her work on her USB drive, collected her pages from the printer, and slung her knapsack over her shoulder. Then she trudged down the hall to Mr. Giuffreda’s class as slowly as possible, even though she knew she would be late and would probably get detention.
Based on the passage, what will Miranda’s mother probably do?
A.
ground Miranda for the next two weeks
B.
find someone to tutor Miranda in English
C.
understand that Miranda tried her best
D.
force Miranda to quit the soccer team

which line from “Defamation” provides strong evidence that adults punish the child in the poem?
Answer:
A. How horrid of them to be always scolding you for nothing!
Explanation:
The above line from “Defamation” actually provides strong evidence that adults punish the child in the poem. This is true because the author uses the word "scolding" which reveals that there is a form of punishment from the adults. The speaker tends to console the child who was punished for his misdeed. The speaker makes a comparison between the boy and the full moon and between the boy and the autumn morning. The author uses a consolation tone. "Defamation” is a poem written by Rabindranath Tagore.

Answer:
Suri smashes her hand.
Explanation:
In a cause and effect text structure, the reason an event occurred is the cause, and the consequences of that event are the effect. In this example, falling is the cause, and Suri´s injury is the effect. The fact that she´s rock climbing is the context of the situation. And she trying a new skill and being successful at first are details that happen before the fall.
Thinking back to that presentation in the library makes me smile. What started out as three high school boys skipping class turned out to be the most significant event in our lives. If we had made it to the gym that day instead of the library, more than likely the streets would have swallowed us in the next few years. We never would have become doctors. Everything we needed to start on the road to success was included in one forty-five-minute presentation. And we almost missed it.

A timeline explaining the novel murder at midnight
Only 5 slots
I need by 11:59
Answer:
The Murder at Midnight is a exceptional, thrilling, and suspenseful book that leaves the reader with a cliffhanger at every chapter. The Murder at Midnight is about a young boy [Fabrizio] who used to live on the streets, but was hired as a servant for a magician, when the magician’s wife stumbled upon him sitting on the streets. Fabrizio’s job leaves him with many mysteries every night, Fabrizio finds himself snooping through his master’s stuff to try and find how he does his tricks, but comes across something else, a murder.
This was definitely one of my favorite books and I wish there were more, or if there was a series. I would recommend this book to people who like mysteries and suspense, also to people who are in 6th and 7th grade because there a complexity to the book but not enough to make 8th grade level, but there a easy part to the book but not enough to make it a 5th grade level. But there are also some substandard part about the book. In this book it’s based 1700’s, so everyone is talking in old accents and you start to gain confusion. But that really means nothing compared to how good of a read this book really was.
The theme of this book is suspense. There are a ton of examples of suspense in this book, one is when fabrizio is arrested for questioning the prince and is sentenced to execution, he is released, and his enthusiasm is priceless, he yells “ Signore… it says … it says … ‘let the boy … go … free!” I loved this part because the whole time when fabrizio was reading the letter he was thinking it was going to say to “kill him at once!”, and the executioner was definitely not to thrilled to kill a child so his enthusiasm was also funny. At first when fabrizio was reading it the executioner said “prepare yourself for death boy.” but as fabrizio kept reading and got to the part where it said let him go the executioner yelled, “Does it? Perfectly amazing! In all my years that’s never happened before.” which let a huge relief of stress when i though the main character was about to die.
